Fencing That Deters Entry, Protects Property, and Meets Insurance Standards

Standard chain link fencing keeps honest people out. A commercial security fence is built to a higher standard. It deters determined entry, holds up under direct attack, and often meets insurer and local security code requirements.

Fences R Us installs commercial security fencing for businesses, storage facilities, equipment yards, government properties, and schools across Marion County. Every security fence job starts with a site assessment. Manny reviews the perimeter, entry points, and threat profile before specifying the fence height, mesh type, and topper.

What Goes Into a Commercial Security Fence

Anti-Climb Mesh

Mesh openings of 0.5 to 1 inch prevent fingers and toes from getting purchase on the fence. Without grip points, climbing is very difficult. Anti-climb mesh is the single most effective physical deterrent on a fence without adding height.

Barbed Wire Topping

Three strands of barbed wire on outrigger arms add 12 to 18 inches of deterrent above the fence height. Arms angle outward at 45 degrees. Barbed wire is the most common topper on commercial and industrial fences in Marion County. See the Barbed Wire Topping page for full details.

Razor Wire

Razor wire uses flat barbed tape rather than twisted wire barbs. It is more aggressive than barbed wire and more common on utility and high-security sites. It is not used on properties adjacent to schools, parks, or public pedestrian areas.

Heavy-Duty Posts

Security fence posts are 2.5 to 4 inches in diameter depending on fence height and application. All posts are set in concrete. Corner and gate posts go deeper than line posts. The post is the first point of failure on a security fence under direct vehicle or tool attack.

Secure Gate Hardware

Security gate hardware includes heavy-duty padlock hasps, drop rods, and anti-lift devices on every hinge. Standard latch hardware is not appropriate on a security perimeter. Manny specs gate hardware based on the access control requirements at each site.

Concrete Footings at Every Post

All commercial security fence posts go in concrete on every Fences R Us job. Line posts, corner posts, and gate posts. Sandy Florida soil provides no meaningful resistance to fence attacks without concrete.

Frequently Asked Questions

What makes a fence a security fence?
A security fence is designed to deter, delay, or detect unauthorized entry. Key features include height of 8 feet or more, anti-climb mesh, barbed wire or razor wire topping, reinforced posts set in concrete, and secure gate hardware. Standard residential chain link does not meet security fence standards.
What height should a commercial security fence be?
8 feet is the minimum for most commercial security applications in Marion County. 10 feet with a barbed wire topper is the standard for utility sites, storage yards, and high-value facilities. Manny specs the height based on the threat level and site requirements during the site visit.
What is anti-climb mesh?
Anti-climb mesh uses smaller mesh openings of 0.5 to 1 inch rather than the standard 2-inch opening. The smaller openings prevent fingers and toes from fitting through the mesh, making the fence very difficult to climb. Anti-climb mesh is heavier than standard chain link and uses heavier gauge wire.
Can you add security features to an existing chain link fence?
Yes. Barbed wire arms and topping can be added to an existing fence line without replacing the posts or fabric. Anti-climb mesh requires replacing the existing fabric. Manny will assess your existing fence during the site visit and recommend the most cost-effective upgrade path.
Does commercial security fencing require a permit in Marion County?
Fences over a certain height or in certain zones may require a permit. Requirements vary by municipality and zoning. Fences R Us can advise on permit requirements based on your property address during the site visit.
