Chain link fencing covers more ground at lower cost than almost any other fence type. It is the most installed fence in Ocala for residential backyards, commercial properties, equipment yards, and industrial sites.
Fences R Us has installed chain link fencing across Marion, Alachua, Citrus, Levy, and Sumter counties since 2003. Posts go in concrete. Tension wire is pulled tight. Gates are hung level on every job.
The right specification depends on the application. A backyard dog fence uses different gauge wire and post sizing than a commercial security perimeter. Manny specs every job based on the application during the site visit.

Residential, Commercial, and Industrial Chain Link
Chain link fencing comes in three grades. The grade determines the wire gauge, post size, and post spacing used on the job.
Residential Grade
11 gauge wire, 1.5 to 2 inch line posts, posts at 10 feet on center. Used for backyards, dog runs, and property line fencing on residential lots. The most common grade installed in Ocala neighborhoods.
Heights from 3 to 6 feet. Vinyl-coated in black or green is popular on residential jobs where appearance matters.

9 gauge wire, 2 to 2.5 inch line posts, posts at 10 feet on center. Used for business perimeters, parking lots, schools, and facilities that need more durability than residential grade without full industrial spec.
Standard height is 6 feet. Privacy slats and barbed wire topping are common additions on commercial jobs.

Choosing the Right Chain Link Height
3 and 4 Feet
Low fence used for garden borders, pool equipment enclosures, and decorative property line marking. Does not deter determined entry. Used where a visual boundary is the main goal.
5 and 6 Feet
The most common height for residential and commercial chain link in Marion County. A 6-foot fence stops most casual entry. It is the standard for backyard enclosures, dog runs, and business perimeters.
8 Feet
Used on commercial and school properties where a higher barrier is needed. Harder to climb than 6-foot fence. Often paired with barbed wire or a privacy screen topper for added deterrence.
10 and 12 Feet
Industrial and utility applications. Surrounds storage yards, equipment pads, and secured facilities. At this height, a barbed wire topper is standard on most jobs.
Custom Heights
Chain link fabric is manufactured in custom heights for specific applications. Tennis court fencing, ball field backstops, and containment areas often require non-standard heights. Manny can spec custom heights during the site visit.

Galvanized vs Vinyl-Coated Chain Link
| Finish | Appearance | Lifespan in FL | Cost | Best Use |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Galvanized (silver) | Bright metallic | 20 to 30 years | Lower | Industrial, utility, back perimeters |
| Vinyl-coated black | Dark, less visible | 20 to 25 years | Higher | Residential, commercial fronts |
| Vinyl-coated green | Blends with landscape | 20 to 25 years | Higher | Residential, parks, schools |
Vinyl coating covers the galvanized wire and posts with a colored PVC layer. It adds visual appeal and slight corrosion resistance. The galvanized core underneath provides the structural strength. In Florida sun, vinyl coating on lower-grade wire can crack over time. Fences R Us uses galvanized-before-weave (GBW) wire as the standard on all vinyl-coated jobs.
